Mercenary Coalition was the most infamous "mercenary" group of EVE Online, taking contracts from small HAC gang PvP to full-out capital ship assaults. Their prices were extravagant as their ship setups, and they were extremely arrogant. They were one of the major players in The Great EVE War.

For a long time, MC were widely believed to be merely an unofficial part of Band of Brothers. This was supported by MC's territory being deep in BoB's, only connected to the outside by a single chokepoint. In addition to this, MC rarely, if ever, took contracts from people other than BoB, or people BoB liked. For example, ASCN offered MC 100bil isk to contract on BoB during the ASCN/BoB war. They rejected.

They're notable in a few ways even if people would rather forget about them. First, they were the first ones to truly pioneer capital ship "blitzes", and they were so amazingly effective that they effectively took over almost all of the north and north-west regions in the game in a matter of two months. Secondly, they were the first ones to use a nano-Titan fit, making it very difficult to kill their Titans. Third, they were the first group to show off the true power of multiple motherships backing up a carrier fleet.

Mercenary Coalition were very full of themselves, to the point of extreme arrogance, but the fact is they did a lot of "innovating" as far as tactics went, almost all of which were legitimate.

They were good at the game until they bit off more than they could chew. Then they were dead.

Basic timeline

On January 25th 2007, MC announced a contract against Dusk and Dawn, IRON, RAZOR Alliance and Morsus Mihi, effectively the whole North. Their "blitz" in the North effectively put the entire north and north-west region into BoBs hands - they were the first ones who used capital ship blitzes in such a way.

In March 2007, MC lost a capital shipyard that was building a Hel-class mothership (confirmed by Seleene himself) through a joint strike consisting of D2, RA and RAT with over fifty dreadnoughts. Five of the attacking dreadnoughts were destroyed during the battle, however.

On August 1st 2007, MC lost an Aeon-class mothership to Against ALL Authorities when they were camping a gate together in FIX space.

On August 22nd, 2007, MC unveiled their own Titan, a Ragnarok.

On September 28th, 2007, Seleene lost the aforementioned Ragnarok to a combined AAA and RA fleet.

On October 14, 2007, Seleene created a thread on the Scrapheap Challenge GBBS forum announcing that the MC contract to secure Querious and help spearhead the assault into Catch had ended.

Scrapheap Challenge thread - This is the original post by Seleene announcing that MC is retiring from combat pending new contracts.

A mirror of the above thread hosted on CAOD. Seleene confirms the authenticity of the thread hosted on Scrapheap Challenge

[1] On December 1, 2007, the Mercenary Coalition unveiled their new Erebus and used it to great effect against BRUCE.

On December 15, 2007, MC announced that they had reset all standings - and started to attack G-Q5JU (owned by Bob).

On March 27, 2008, Mercenary Coalition reset standings to the RSF and began working with BoB again.

On March 31, 2008, SirMolle announced that he lied to MC and they were not, in fact, working together. Trumps it up like some big deal when the actual damage to MC by BoB is miniscule. But, everybody still feels good that maybe MC got what was coming to them making this a highly effective BoB publicity stunt, and shortly afterwards BoB took out the trash (them).

As of May 2008, they have disbanded. Good riddance.
