Titans are the largest and most powerful vessels in Eve. They can transport battleships like carriers do frigates, can fit multiple XL-class weapons and have huge amounts of armor and shields. Like Motherships, they can fit a clone bay and are immune to electronic warfare modules. In addition to being able to fit up to six Gang Warfare modules, they provide massive bonuses to the gang: the Leviathan for example, gives 7.5% extra shield hp to each ship in the gang per level of Racial Titan.

Perhaps the two most important abilities of Titans is in two modules unique to them: the Doomsday weapon and the Capital Jump Bridge Array. The former is now a targeted weapon dealing 2-3mil damage depending on Doomsday Operation level - primarily used to insta-pop capital ships. Doomsdays used to be an area effect weapon able to be deployed to anywhere in the same system via cynosural field, but as of the Revelations II patch, that remote ability has been removed as it was seen as overpowered and imbalanced after nearly grinding 0.0 warfare to a halt. The Dominion patch saw that ability changed further, with the doomsday becoming a targeted weapon and losing its AoE ability. All titans recieved a significant HP bonus to make this weapon viable. The latter allows for the formation of a cynosural portal between the Titan and any ship equipped with a Cynosural Field Generator, which friendlies can then use as a make-shift jumpgate.

The precise cost of building one from scratch is difficult to calculate, but probably exceeds 100 billion isk from scratch, if the blueprint and mineral costs are both included. Mineral cost alone is in the realm of 40-50 billion isk, depending on local prices for the materials and/or capital ship components. Such an endeavor requires the participation of hundreds or thousands of pilots and a large amount of infrastructure. At least 350 Titans have been built as of December 2009, and the number is likely significantly higher due to their use solely for logistics purposes. The largest 0.0 alliances have in excess of 20 titans on paper, but in practice only a fraction are regularly used in offensive operations.

The Avatar was arguably the best Titan in the game, due to the massive capacitor bonus it gives to fleets. The gargantuan cost, length of skill training time, and quite frankly the impossibility of building one in total secret—all lend themselves to a substantial degree of min/maxing by the potential owners. The result? The first three Titans built in the game were Avatars. However a later nerf meant that titans could no longer jump out immediately after using their doomsday, making the cap regen bonus less useful. The Erebus is now by far the most popular, probably due to the insane armour HP bonus it gives to the gang. The first Goonswarm Titan, lost by the pilot "Deadtear", was an Erebus.

Shrike (aka SirMolle, aka "Molly", aka the CEO of BoB) was the first live Titan loss on Tranq, (All other titan losses up to that date occurred while the pilot was offline) killed by a joint RA/GS dreadnought force in 46DP. He dropped approximately 33b in loot. He was also podded. He then proceeded to steal Hegemon Rast's Titan, and renamed it "Darwin Reloaded". In 2008 in their "MAX" campaign, Shrike managed to lose two additional Avatar class titans in the span of a week. He has since been killed in Avatar #4. He currently flies Chowdown's Avatar - likely the oldest titan hull remaining ingame.

In Game Titans

The First Encounter

During the BoB vs. ASCN war both sides unvieled Titans and used them in battle. On December 11th 2006 BoB destroyed ASCN's Titan (Steve, named after Steve Irwin) after its pilot CYVOK logged off while PvP aggressed. This seemed to be the last straw for CYVOK and shortly after he retired from his position as leader of ASCN and from EVE Online. After almost 3 months of fighting the ASCN alliance had suffered great losses and surrendered to BoB and withdrew from 0.0 space.

D2 unveiled their Titan (Erebus class) shortly after invading BoB space in early February '07. This Titan was also destroyed at the hands of BoB (16/02/07) after a BoB spy in D2 managed to keep the Titan aggressed as the pilot went offline.

Earlier on that same day Redswarm Federation, with the help of Curse Alliance and IAC, had destroyed LV's Titan foetus in JV1V in what was one of the largest fleet engagements of all time. Between the hours of 0230 and 0730 EVE time the JV1V node crashed several times while trying to support a reported 400+ defenders, 15-20 warp disruption bubbles and over 1000 coalition attackers on the JV1V gate and in the JV1V system. After hours of repeated logging in, pew pew, node crash, rinse and repeating the RSF coalition and friends managed to get a Cap Fleet cyno'd into system. The RSF support fleet managed to secure the system and after nearly 6 hours of fleet operations LV's Capital Ship Yard fell. It was reported at that time that LV had also had the Titan BPO inside the POS but sadly this turned out to be false.

LV's first Titan was originally unveiled against Goonfleet. Below is The Mittani's report on this event.

This day has been fucking EPIC. 600-man space battles, a surprise unveiling of the LV Titan wiping out a 230-man fleet, us putting up a tower anyway, constant fighting....

God, I love this game.

The titan thing is pretty wild. If they had held off with their surprise, they could have nuked our entire capital fleet and we would have been utterly unprepared. Instead they blew up a gatecamp. Dreads cannot move for 10 minutes if they engage siege mode, so if that had happened they would be utterly vulnerable to the doomsday weapon.

I saw a screenshot of the Avatar firing, and the aftermath, and oh god I want to see the fraps. Sure it was fired at us, but gigantic fucking space battles is what it's all about and oh god the carnage.

LV just warped a fleet onto our dreads and there was a big fight and oh jesus I love it. You should have seen my monitors when the doomsday went off, I had 15 fucking Trillian windows pop up as all my agents in LV and people in our fleet when WHAT THE CHRIST DOOMSDAY AAAAAAAAAA and then were vaporized.

Aaahhhh. It's been a good day.

1st doomsday firing: 230 ships lost 2nd doomsday firing: 10 ships lost

The Fall of Shrike

On June 22nd 2007, Shrike's Avatar ("Darwin's Contraption") was killed in what is seen as a stroke of luck combined with the most retarded piloting seen by Shrike yet. A bunch of Red Alliance and GoonSwarm dreadnoughts were assembled for a capital op in defense of JV1V, that had been put into reinforced earlier in the day. After an engagement in 46DP against BoB (which BoB won), they attempted to finish off our remaining forces by hot-dropping Shrike on us. He jumped in, fired his doomsday and cloaked. It was another predictable Titan maneuver, until, that is, a lone WANG member decloaked him...

We fought an EPIC battle in 9-9 on the gate where we killed and lost like three pages of shit, tons of wrecks. BoB ended up holding the field because they warped in some motherships and began remote repping what we called primary, so I ordered a retreat back to get new ships and regroup. I had caps form up in JV1V, support in 77S8 on the 46DP gate, and frigates only in 46DP on the 9-9 gate. They sent in a vexor to cyno Shrike in, we killed it while he was jumping which dumped him into a random spot in system. He warped to the gate at 100, doomsdayed, and then cloaked. As soon as he warped in all of us warped out and then I ordered everybody back to the gate. Some AWESOME motherfucker decloaked him and I called him primary, we had four bubbles on him and we were bumping him before he could do anything. BoB jumped in about 40 people and all died as I ordered weapons free since there was too much lag to really do primaries effectively. We kept shrike bubbled and bumped as we raced to get a cyno within range, Aurthur Miller got one finally and dropped it. Our caps cynoed in and went to work and from that point on it was just a question of time. RA finally got in and that was the end. Thanks to everybody who came, great fucking work!

We also scooped the Judgment module, 3x Drac's Modified Cap Rechargers, 3x Kin/Therm/Exp Core X-Type hardeners, and a Corpum A-Type EANM. Drac's rechargers are worth 10b a piece. The total loss of this Titan is estimated to be about 100b between modules and logistics costs.;7851751;;/fileinfo.html

The Judgment was then melted down and used to make Rifters.
