The Five Rules of Ewar
  • Never use Ewar on the Primary.
  • Target a hostile whose name is closest to yours alphabetically.
  • ECM is ONLY used on tacklers/cruisers/HACs.
  • RSD is ONLY used on Battleships/Command Ships/Carriers.
  • ALWAYS have an overview that focuses on your Ewar target class only.

Electronic Attack Ships are a new type of Tech 2 frigates introduced with the Trinity expansion in December 2007. Basically, they are frigate sized versions of the Combat Recon ships and fill much of the same support role in small and medium gangs. However, their solo capabilities are severely limited and in fact bordering on nonexistent; while they have excellent electronic warfare capabilities for their size, their damage output is low even by frigate standards.

The main prerequisites to flying them are Racial Frigate V and Electronics Upgrades V. Basically, if you can fly a Covert Ops frigate you can fly one of these once you train the Electronic Attack Ships skill.

The ships

Bonuses to stasis webifier range, less MWD cap penalty, signature radius reduction and target painter effectiveness (lol). It's not immediately obvious, but if you consider the bonuses for a minute, you realize that it's actually something like an interceptor in disguise. It's remarkably like a slower Stiletto with slightly bigger sig radius (it even has the same slot layout), but with 18km web range at EAS IV. An awesome dedicated tackler.

Bonuses to sensor dampener effectiveness, sensor dampener cap usage, warp disruptor range and warp disruptor cap usage. The bonuses make it pretty obvious what this ship is good at: warp scramming people from 30km away while dampening them to the stone age. As an added bonus it has no less than five midslots, giving you plenty of options to fit interesting combinations of damps, scrams, MWD/AB and cap gear. A solid small gang support ship and potentially useful for fleet work as well.

Bonuses to ECM strength, ECM range, ECM cap usage and capacitor capacity. It's almost like CCP were trying to tell you something with that triple bonus. Needless to say, this ship really does only one thing: ECM. Unfortunately it's not very useful in a fleet context, for several reasons. It's slow, comparatively expensive, made of paper, and doesn't have enough lock range. Fly a Blackbird instead. In small gangs on the other hand it'll probably be a lot more useful.

Bonuses to energy vampire/neutralizer transfer amount, tracking disruptor effectiveness, energy vampire/neutralizer range and capacitor recharge time. It's like a frigate-sized Curse that specializes in either turning off turrets or chasing down and killing interceptors. Although initially scoffed at, the Sentinel is proving to be one of the better Electronic Attack Ships.
